At Considerable Cost

The sweetness as the boy looks up at one big sister and holds hands with the other! Though this post is dated August, it is actually being typed in December.   I didn't want to post at the time because sending my baby off to kindergarten has been an adjustment for me.   He is so happy, though and he LOVES school.   He LOVES his teacher.   He LOVES learning.   And he LOVES his mama when I pick him up at the end of the day!   Some days, he's dressed with his backpack on, waiting for everyone else to get ready because he can't wait to get to school.    It helps with this transition to know how happy he is, and how well-cared for he is by his excellent teacher.   He also gets to see her in mass on Sunday mornings, where she is a Eucharistic minister. He fell asleep in the car line as we waited to pick up Emmeline. As if that wasn't enough, this is also the year my oldest started Intermediate school at a 5th and 6th grade camp

Last Friday, we drove to Houston, but it wasn't to take advantage of the Tax-Free Weekend specials at all the malls.   We drove over an hour to have our eight-year-old's hair cut.   It was worth the drive and the cost (more than my haircuts) to see her leave a hair salon so happy. Clare's hair was straight until she was about 18 months old.   Slowly, large waves, then ringlets, and finally full-blown tight curls formed.  People stop us in stores and make Shirley Temple references.   Some people want to touch her hair.   Some people don't even ask!    But Clare hated her hair.   She wanted Rapunzel's long, straight hair.   She has been teased.   Mornings, especially school mornings, have been miserable and she dreaded being told it was time to fix her hair.   Our favorite stylist at the walk-in salon we normally visit let Clare go by while she skipped to another client because I don't think she wanted to tackle Clare's curls.
