A Little Housekeeping

Image
I really thought we were going to have to change the flooring in our master bedroom.   I started looking up cheap DIY flooring options because we had already changed the flooring in the living room and kids' rooms to help with our daughter's  asthma.   I still have days where I can't do much so I was not looking forward to a drawn-out, huge job.   I am SO thankful that I found a tip for cleaning carpets on Pinterest: WINDEX, Original Formula .   It really works!   It's supposed to be a professional secret.   Well, it's no secret that the damage my children did to my carpets has disappeared and I am relieved.   I finished one section and a whole bottle.   I'll finish the rest next week, a little bit each day.   It will look really great when it is steam cleaned.   We're trying to decide if we want to invest in our own steam cleaner.    And no, contrary to what the...

Yo, ho, Mateys: A Pirate Birthday

Image
About a year and a half ago, our then next-door-neighbor showed up on my doorstep with a huge bag in her hands.  "Could you use this?   I'm just going to throw it away if you don't want it."   A big bag of free?   Always.   "Sure," I said.   Then, I stuffed it in the closet, without looking at its contents, just knowing it was pirate stuff left over from a birthday party.   Every time it was in my way, I considered, for the briefest of moments, throwing the whole lot out.   But then I remembered it was free and I shoved it aside as I looked for the latest lost item.   Last fall, Netflix added Disney's Jake and the Neverland Pirates  to their line-up and Thomas was an instant fan.   At Halloween, he wanted to be Jake, specifically.   I nudged him toward a cheaper costume so he was a pirate, generally.            F...

7 Quick Takes

Image
Here are my 7 Quick Takes as part of the link-up with Jennifer at Conversiondiary.com 1 The first time I noticed a post from this link-up, it was abbreviated 7qt .   I thought it was a link to a canning recipe or maybe Tupperware had a new big bowl, since I just glanced and saw what I thought was an abbreviation for 7 quarts.   Have to admit: little disappointed for a brief moment.   I really like my big Tupperware bowl. 2 My children are really getting bigger.   The girls helped me fill out birthdays on our calendar and I couldn't believe I had to write 7th and 10th on their birthdays.   I was blessed with some sleep sweetness this week and glimpses to remind me they're still little and it's not all gone by yet. The boy.   I didn't catch a pic of big sister sleeping 3 I really enjoyed an article on Word on Fire this week: Lent: What I Have Done and What I Have Failed to Do .   Ellyn ...

Cauliflower Crust Pizza

Image
Using this recipe earned me a good thirty minutes on Pinterest, guilt-free.   I figure for every complete project, I've justified my pinning time.   I really like Pinterest.   It's like a game for me on my iPhone when I'm waiting outside dance class or in a doctor's office.   So, my pins come in clumps, with periods of time between them.   I was that kid who scrapbooked (not like today's hobby; I just glued articles, pics, keepsakes onto pages) and decorated my locker.   No one else in my school had a locker decorated with pictures of English gardens and James Dean. Here's the link to this healthy pizza that my kids love!   The crust is made from cauliflower, so it's a low-carb, cheap option for pizza night. http://www.eat-drink-smile.com/2011/04/cauliflower-crust-pizza.html And here's what my first attempt looked like: I made a rectangle pizza.
