At Considerable Cost

By this time last year, I was already shopping for our family First Communion dress.   As I have posted before, I like bargains and I will save costs where I can.   Even my wedding dress was a great price.   That wasn't exactly on purpose, as it was the one I wanted at first glance, but I did work the summer before our wedding to pay for it.   My parents had paid for my college education so that I started my career with no college debt, so I thought I could handle paying for the dress. Simple empire waist, with white pearl beading on bodice.   Mama and I made my veil.  There have been a few times, though, when I didn't worry about costs.   One such time was when we purchased the baptism gown that would become our family baptismal gown.   We bought it before our eldest daughter's baptism and it has been used by all three children.   It is beautiful linen with hand-knitted lace trim on the gown an...

I love this anecdote:   I thought of my friend, Lauren, when I first read this.   She captured the memories of E's first communion by taking portraits for us.   I love how she captured E's personality.   Here are just a few of the pictures from the session.   You can see more of Lauren's amazing work here . "I got the dress details for you!" No surprise that I like the vintage feel of this one! She wore her hair up for first communion, but I like that her hair is down in these pictures because that's how she normally wears it.

This weekend, we celebrated E's reception of First Holy Communion.   As an adult convert, my memories of first communion are part of the Easter Vigil mass where I was baptized, received first communion, and was confirmed.   I am so happy for her and so thankful that she didn't have to wait that long!   Thanks be to God!   We had a house full for her reception after and I didn't get pictures as I should have.   I always feel so blessed with a house full! Her dress will be a family dress, passed down through the years.   E's name and first communion date are embroidered on the slip.   We also have a family baptismal gown, with each child's name and date embroidered.   T will NOT have to wear this dress, though;) Her godmother, Nancy bought her veil, which made it extra special (gloves also) The dressmaker also sells replicas of the dresses for dolls.Emmeline was so excited over her doll's matchin...
